Lapworth Museum of Geology, University of Birmingham
Welcome to the Lapworth Museum’s archive catalogue, the gateway for researchers to access details of our archive collections.
Archive collections
Our first archive collection to be catalogued is that of Charles Lapworth, the Museum’s namesake and an eminent geologist in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was the first Professor of Geology at Mason College, the forerunner to the University of Birmingham, and his archive contains records relating to all aspects of his work, including research, teaching, and consultancy work, as well as giving an insight into his personal life and the social history of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This collection was catalogued as part of an Archives Revealed funded project.
The Museum also holds collections of subsequent Professors of Geology at the University of Birmingham, which are currently uncatalogued. If you have a query about an uncatalogued collection, please email lapworth@contacts.bham.ac.uk.
